Zeus and Violet's three chicks

March 2, 2010
Well its been a wile. Zeus and Violet have three beautiful chicks. The chicks hatched on the 13th 15th and 16th. They are doing great. These chicks are half english half American budgie. It is amazing how much bigger they are from the American chicks I usually breed. I'm not sure of the first and second chicks color mutations but the third chick is definitely albino. She opened her eyes a couple days ago and they are as red as can be. I'm going to start hand feeding the chicks this week. I tried to take some photos of the chicks but they wouldn't stay still. When I start taking them out more they will settle down and I will take some photos.

She is doing great and seems to be making friends with the adult birds. Violet and Zeus have laid six eggs. The first egg was laid the 24th the second was laid on the 26th the third was laid on the 28th the fourth egg was laid on the 30th the fifth was laid on the 1st and the last sixth was laid on the 3rd. Two eggs and a growing chick

January 27, 2010

The chick is doing great. It is starting to get out of the nest but hasn’t figured out how to get back in just yet. I have had more opportunities to hand feed the chick because Violet only likes to feed it when it’s in the nest. Violet has started to lay her second clutch of eggs. I usually don’t get any chicks from the second clutch but we will see how things go. As of right now she is laying on two eggs and is still taking very good care of the chick. They grow up so fast almost all...

Update on the chick

January 21, 2010
The lonely little chick isn't so little any more. It is doing great. Violet and Zeus are great adoptive parents. I have only gotten to feed the chick once because it always has a full belly. So here is a photo. The yellow is hard to see with the flash on but trust me this chick is yellow.

Tuff break

January 14, 2010
Well this breeding season didn't exactly go as planed. There where four breeding pairs that produced a total of sixteen eggs. From those eggs eleven where fertile. It looks like there will be a great turn out. But then the hens came out of breeding condition to fast. When this happens then hens can stop sitting on their eggs and taking care of their chicks. At this time there where four of Willow and Storm eggs that hatched. As Storm came out of breeding condition she stopped caring for her...

Update on breeding pairs

December 11, 2009
Willow and Storm have 4 eggs. Storm has been sitting on the eggs, only getting off the eggs when she needs to. Zeus and Violet also have 4 eggs. Violet hardly even gets out of the nest and Zeus sits outside the nest box talking to her. Dusty and Stella have been flirting a lot. Stella is starting to clean one of the corners of the cage. She is refusing to spend time in the nest box. The same goes for Grace and Apollo. Grace is also refusing to get into her nest box. Diego and La fiesta have c...
