I have been seeing some early signs of the spring breeding season. The boys are starting to sing their love songs and the girls are starting to rip up paper more frequently. Today I started to get ready for the spring breeding season. I have placed three breeding pairs into their breeding cages. They will be given more light for longer periods and I will start to spray them with water to put them in the mood. These steps ensure that the birds will get ready for the spring breeding season. In the wild budgies have the same spring and fall breeding patterns. The rain falls more in the spring and fall. There are also longer days. I will stop clipping the birds wings and nails until their babies are weaned. This will decrease their stress levels. If the birds get too stressed they might not sit on their eggs or even stop feeding their young.
